ACL prevention and rehabilitation programs
Science Backed, Data driven
Research shows 66% of sports injuries are to the lower extremity, with majority being to the knee. Our Wilmington Physical Therapists and Athletic Training staff have noticed a gap in the market for athlete rehabilitation. There needs to be science backed and data driven systems in place to have a successful well rounded athletes. One of the missing pieces CTG has found is lack of proper lifting mechanics in athletes across the community. Dated fitness techniques and advice are used far too often especially in youth athletes. This can predispose athletes to injuries such as strained muscles and sprained ligaments. This can be a career ending injury for some.
So what can we do to try and avoid injury?
We have worked together with our Physical Therapy Staff, Athletic Training Staff, and coaching staff to bridge the gap between physical therapy and fitness training. Often times athletes are released to participate in their sport/activity before they begin optimized strength training. We have created customized sport specific training programs for athletes and active adults to perform at their highest level.
ACL Injury Statistics:
If an athlete has an injury to the ACL there is a 77% chance the athlete will require surgery. Costs associated with an ACL ranges from $5,000-$38,000, and after that they're at a greater risk of re-injury. Female athletes are at an even higher risk of ACL injuries due to their bio mechanical differences.
Once an athlete returns to play, many times. it'll take up to 2 years to get back to the same level of competition post injury. Then after that, they're at risk for further injury or developing other degenerative diseases in their future. So, If you could try and avoid this, would you?

Soccer athletes are at a greater risk of non-contact ACL injuries with females being 2.8x's higher risk than males.
ACL Injury prevention is crucial for an athletes to succeed at their highest level. With optimal prevention pprograms set in place the chance of injury goes down by 52-88%. Our staff has developed customized prevention programs where athletes and active adults can train safely with proper education and mechanics. The goals of our program are to minimize the risk of injury, increase resilience once the athletes has reached a fatigued state, and improve athlete mind/body connection.
ACL Program Outline:
*CAN BE COMPLETED AS DYNAMIC WARM UP BEFORE S&C OR PRACTICES *
-
Dynamic Mobility- greater focus on hip, ankles, and mid/low back for optimal movement patterns
-
Strength- Single leg exercises are crucial for bio mechanics and are extremely beneficial for runners, soccer athlete, basketball athletes, and volleyball athletes.
-
Motor Control- essential for the athletes mind/body connection
-
Agility- Sprints, sport specific patterns like cutting, quick stops, and shuffling
